1 1.1 The need for Human Rights

Our first unit will be human rights. Over the course of this unit, we will define exactly what a human right is, why these rights are important, and how they are protected. We will also focus closely on a few specific human rights, such as the right to life, the right to equality, and the right to freedom of expression.

2 1.2 The Right to Life

document that applies to all people. This means that each and every person in the world, irrespective of their specific identity and beliefs, is entitled to the basic human rights that are outlined in the UDHR. As we saw, the UDHR consists of 30 articles, each outlining a specific human right. This includes Article 3: the right to life. This article affords each and every person the right to be alive, but also to have freedom and security as a person.

3 1.3 Rights of the Child

While the UDHR outlines the collective rights of all humans, young and old, the rights of children need special protection. Children are amongst the most vulnerable members of our society and account for 2.5 billion of the global population. For this reason, the United Nations established a treaty prioritising the protection of children.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
